Ecotherapy
This is counselling in natural, outdoor settings, often referred to as ‘walk and talk therapy’. For this we can utilise the quiet and spacious grounds of Dartington Hall. I believe that any healing is closely connected to nature. Being outdoors can help to feel less confined and more free to explore thoughts and process emotions. Since 2024 I have worked as a counsellor with the Dartington based Apricot Centre, a sustainable farm, learning centre and wellbeing space rooted in nature.
Mindfulness
I believe that by nurturing present-moment awareness and cultivating a non-reactive, compassionate mindset, you can find greater clarity, balance, and purpose in your life. I have a thorough understanding of a wide range of mindfulness-based techniques. Alongside traditional talking therapy these techniques can guide you in developing skills to navigate challenges, manage anxiety, and enhance overall well-being.
I trained as a meditation teacher with Oxford Mindfulness and have completed a three month course in Trauma sensitive Mindfulness with trauma expert Dr. David Treleaven. I have personally been practicing Insight Meditation for over 20 years with regular silent retreats.
Young People
I have been supporting students at Exeter University since 2021 and so have a thorough understanding and compassion for the unique challenges facing young people through training and direct experience with issues like ecoanxiety, neurodivergence, male identity issues, eating disorders and phone/porn addiction.
Other
I have an alignment with transpersonal psychotherapy with its holistic integration of spiritual tools and traditions alongside more modern psychological interventions.
I have personal experience of working therapeutically with psychedelic medicines such as ayahuasca, mdma and psilocybin.
I am currently receiving specialist training in focusing, a type of somatic experiencing paying gentle, non-judgmental attention to the felt sense of something in order to heal the body.
Having experienced Long Covid for three years I also have an understanding of the inherent frustrations of living with a chronic illness and some of the approaches and interventions that might help with this.
